The Music Box, the new Music Centre scheduled to open in 2006, will become home to the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Chorus, the BBC Concert Orchestra and the BBC Singers, bringing them together in one place for the first time.

BBC Director of Finance, Property and Business Affairs.The new building will provide the latest facilities for the BBC's London based orchestras, including two studios for rehearsal, recording and live performances with an audience capacity of up to 600 people.

Support areas for performers will include rehearsal and practice rooms.The new modern environment will ensure the BBC's world-class performing groups in London can thrive and remain at the centre of musical life and culture in the UK.The Music Box is part of the new Media Village, the BBC's redevelopment of White City, and is a key part in the BBC's policy to open its doors to the local community in West London.
The White City development will also foster local regeneration in the area. The wider plan is to move all the BBC's performing groups into new or renovated buildings in the next four years.

The site has a history of large-scale development. In 1908 the White City site was developed for the Franco-English exhibition where the name White City originated. These buildings were subsequently used for other international expositions. The site hosted the 1908 Olympic Games and later the stadium was used as a dog racing and athletics venue up until the 1980s.
Now the wider area is shared with the residents of the adjacent White City Estate and the BBC’s Television Centre. The daily population of this large BBC campus is about 12,000 people. The Music Centre will sit at the centre of this campus, at the heart of the BBC in West London.
The BBC acquired the site in the mid-1980s and for the first phase of the development a 25,000 square meters net office building was completed in 1990. .

The final phase of developing the 17 acres of land is the Music Centre and the spaces which will be accessible to the public.
