Hawkins/Brown's Bottle Store scheme gets go ahead

The redevelopment plan for the Watney Mann brewery site in Stockwell, London is due to start on site in September. The scheme will regenerate the site of the former nineteenth-century brewery into a vibrant centre including 290 residential units, 89,000 square feet of office space, retail units and a health centre. The original 1960's bottling store will be re-clad with a semi-translucent facade and concrete panels with inset coloured glass lenses, and will form the flagship building of the development. The architects Hawkins/Brown adopted environmentally sustainable design methods including borehole cooling, solar heating and a highly insulated facade, to reduce the energy demand. Completion is scheduled for Spring 2008.
